CHANGES FOR THE 2007-2008 SEASON:

PYSO consists of three separate ensembles, described below.

Prelude Strings Orchestra is being re-named to become the PYSO Chamber Orchestra.  The Chamber Orchestra will remain an all-string ensemble, however, they will occasionally partner with the newly-formed PYSO Wind Ensemble to enjoy a full symphonic experience. The Chamber Orchestra will accept musicians who will be in grades 6 – 9 as of September 2007.  The group will perform several concerts during the course of the year, will enjoy regular coaching sessions with professional musicians. One of the highlights of the season will certainly be a 3-day music retreat to the UCLA Conference Center in Lake Arrowhead. Attendance at the retreat is required of all Chamber Orchestra members.

The PYSO Wind Ensemble is a newly-formed group that will consist of woodwind, brass and percussion players who will be in 6 – 9 as of September 2007.  The group will perform several concerts during the course of the year, and will occasionally partner with the PYSO Chamber Orchestra to enjoy a full symphonic experience. Members will enjoy regular coaching sessions with professional musicians. One of the highlights of the season will certainly be a 3-day music retreat to the UCLA Conference Center in Lake Arrowhead. Attendance at the retreat is required of all Wind Ensemble members.

The Pasadena Youth Symphony Orchestra is a full symphonic honors orchestra, and is open to musicians who will be in grades 6 – 9 as of September 2007.  The Youth Symphony performs several concerts each year in a variety of venues, and performs the most challenging repertoire of the organization’s three ensembles. Youth Symphony members have regular coaching sessions with professional musicians, and travel at least once a year.

In the summer of 2008, the Youth Symphony  will travel to Vienna, Austria (details of the trip will be available soon.)  Every member of the Youth Symphony during the 2007-2008 season is required to participate in the tour. The tour will conflict with summer school. Musicians should not audition for the Youth Symphony if they cannot take part in the tour. (This tour is for PYSO members only, not musicians in the Chamber Orchestra or the Wind Ensemble.)
